#ThursThreads week 58

Prompt: http://siobhanmuir.blogspot.com/2013/02/thursthreads-tying-tales-together-for.html

The shock of seeing their home in ruins was too much for Emily, and she turned to Simon, her distress clearly written across her face. “This? This is where we’re going to end up? Everything is gone, Simon. Everything! We’ve jumped across time, around the world, and for what? And not just us – everyone.

“What good does it do, to care, to live, if it’s all going away?” She fell into his arms and started to sob. “Does it mean anything?”

As she cried, Simon searched for his own answer. He was taken aback by what they’d seen as well, but something told him this future wasn’t written in stone. Nor was the one with the monsters that ate Marcus. It didn’t make sense that the umbrella would have found him and shown him this power without there being some way to change things. He gently pulled back from Emily and took her face in his hands, holding her gaze with his.

“I don’t know what it means. I don’t know why the umbrella found me, or why I found you. But we’re here, and I don’t think this is the end. There’s a reason it brought us to this place, and once we know what that is, I think we’ll know what to do next to change things, to stop this from happening.” Simon wiped away a tear with his thumb and smiled. “There’s a lot of things I don’t know, but I do know this.

“I love you.”
