Monday Mixer, week 26

Prompt: http://www.jeffreyhollar.com/p/monday-mixer.html

Alanna was mawkish around her classmates, but that was just a pose to get them to ignore her. Goth girl was a type, and it was safer to play a role than to try to show them the real her. That her family had played an important role in the schism between the Americas was not well-known, and if their actions in the revolution were made public, she would neither garner sympathy nor the anonymity she craved; conversations in the hall made it clear that the natives were feeling sportive. She sat alone in the cafeteria, eating the slurry that the new government called food, thinking about what she had been building in the basement and wondering who here would be dead next week. A officer shouting at the door let her know her secret was out. The methods of the new government were draconian, but they were also effective.
